Sunday April 29th: MAINE

Maine is BEAUTIFUL!  It reminds me of Tahoe and being in the great outdoors.  No wonder they have LL Bean here!!   It is so rugged that they only have one interstate freeway – 95 –that goes through the entire state.
On our way to quaint little Freeport, Maine, we stopped at the oldest lighthouse in Maine, The Portland Head Light.  It was so beautiful right out there on the Atlantic Coast.  The Lighthouse had a small museum about the history of this particular light house and when it built.    The most fascinating information that I learned today was that Maine is the only state that borders only one other state; Maine has 3547 miles of coast line (longer that California) because it has so many little peninsula’s; and Maine has 65 lighthouses!!  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow also wrote a famous poem about this Lighthouse, called “The Lighthouse”.  He came here often because the light keepers were his friends and he would sit on the banks to gather inspiration for his poems.
Freeport, Maine is so quaint and adorable and a shopper’s paradise.  LL Bean is amazing . . 5 different shops of shopping and each one is 2 to 3 stories.  They have a bike, boat & ski store, hunting and fishing store, home store, flagship store, outlet store, and a discovery school.    They are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!    We made good use of the late night shopping and having fun taking pictures throughout the store.  I’m so happy we decided to come to Freeport because ever since my family has been ordering LL Bean products since I was young, I have wanted to come and see it.

When we drove into our KOA late tonight (after midnight shopping at LL Bean J) a light was flashing and we wondered if there was someone walking around with a flashlight.  As we pulled up we realized that is was a little lighthouse built as a decoration on the office porch . . . how adorable and practical!!  J  I am so happy the we decided to come to Maine.
